Responding to emergencies affecting children in Zimbabwe

Children suffer more from exposure to disasters including physical and psychological effects, and disruption in their schooling. Cyclone Idai has caused significant damage to water and sanitation infrastructure impeding access to safe water. This brings a heightened risk of water borne diseases and increased protection risks for women and children.

In the recent tropical Cyclone Idai two pupils from St Charles Lwanga Secondary School were killed after a rock fall and two other primary school pupils were also reported dead in Bikita,Mukore area after the hut they were sheltering in collapsed. As the death toll rises daily, it is expected that more deaths of children will be reported. Read more in the PDF below
