The event targets total participation of 150 delegates from member organisations and associate members who will act as observers of the proceedings.

The NANGO Annual NGO Awards 2024 will recognise the outstanding work of individuals and civil society organisations in Zimbabwe. The awards will be presented in nine categories and will be the concluding session of the 14th NGO Directors Summer Retreat to take place from 23 – 25 October 2024.

Join us for the 14th NGO Directors Summer Retreat, a three-day conference from 6 to 8 November 2024, where leaders in the NGO sector come together to co-create, network, and share insights on a diverse range of issues. This exclusive multi-stakeholder platform targets 150 participants, including local NGO leaders, government officials, development partners, International NGOs, academics, the media, and the private sector.

Join us for a Half-Day Physical Meeting in Harare in mid-September targeting 100 participants. This crucial activity aims to engage NGO staff, particularly those representing marginalized communities such as women, youth, children, and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs). Aligned with our SDG advocacy campaign, this event seeks to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Zimbabwe. Representatives from the media, academia, development partners, and the private sector will also be part of this annual gathering.

Mark your calendars for a two-and-a-half-day physical conference, set to take place in all five NANGO Regions,  in Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru, Mutare, and Masvingo, between June and July. Each event targets at least 300 participants, including NGO professionals, private sector representatives, government officials, International NGOs, academia, donors/development partners, and the public. The event will bring together member organisations and other key stakeholders from the civil society sector to reflect on the challenges facing the association, and provide insights and feedback on operations.

Join us for a half-day meeting as we commemorate World NGO Day. With a target audience of at least 50 participants, including government officials, private sector representatives, development partners, and member organisations, this physical gathering aims to amplify and celebrate NGO professionals and the impact they make in community development.

A platform for marginalised groups to raise concerns and demand solutions

NANGO is organising a National People’s Assembly in Harare to bring together 30 representatives from diverse marginalised groups, government officials, and the media. The primary focus of the assembly will be on engaging the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, along with other government ministries and departments. The objective of this event is to provide a platform for participants, particularly from marginalised groups, to express their voices and raise concerns regarding pressing issues such as poverty, food security, financial challenges, and injustices related to COVID-19 vaccines, among others which will all feed into the SDG Mid-Point Summit.

The Annual NGOs Directors’ Summer Retreat is a signature event in Zimbabwe that is led and driven by civil society organisations (CSOs). It is hosted by the National Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (NANGO), a voluntary coordinating organisation that draws its membership from local and international NGOs operating in Zimbabwe. The primary aim of the Summer Retreat is to strengthen the voice and impact of NGOs in the country. This edition of the Summer Retreat will be held under the theme, “Reimagining the Future of Civil Society in Zimbabwe: From Analysis to Action.”

NANGO is launching its Strategic Plan for the next three years at its 60th National AGM. The event will bring together key stakeholders from the civil society sector to reflect on the challenges facing the sector and explore collaborative partnerships. The AGM will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss the Strategic Plan and provide feedback. It will also be a chance to network with other civil society leaders and learn about the latest trends in the sector.

Celebrate the achievements of women around the country with our International Women’s Day Commemoration article. Learn about the history of this important day, the progress made towards gender equality, and the challenges that still lie ahead. Join us in honouring the women who have paved the way for future generations and continue to inspire us today.

The event offers an opportunity for the creation of a platform where key budget institutions can meet and share experiences from the previous period and best practices, AND proffer recommendations for the coming period in a bid to improve budgetary processes in the country. The event will allow the official launch of the Zimbabwe 2021 Open Budget Survey results.

The workshop by the NANGO Secretariat and the members of the National Executive Board to collectively review the Draft Organisational Strategic Plan (2023-2025). The Strategic Plan seeks to shape the vision and mission of NANGO along with its strategic priorities and action points that would guide NANGO’s advocacy and engagement with the government of Zimbabwe, development partners, other relevant stakeholders, and the general public. The workshop will also be utilised to get feedback on the Draft National Strategic Plan and to engage the members of the National Executive Board in strategic discussions on the future development of NANGO.

The NGO Directors Summer Retreat is a multistakeholder dialogue platform for directors, development partners, the private sector, and government officials to engage and develop reform matrixes for the civil society sector. It seeks to provide the opportunity for all stakeholders to meet and share experiences and ideas for the co-creation of an enabling environment for improved public accountability, transparency, and sustainable development in Zimbabwe.

As a member of NANGO, it is important to show up to the yearly meeting. This meeting is an opportunity to deliberate on how the association will progress in the next year and also, the meeting gives members a chance to give a quick overview of the association’s standing, and achievements, and allows members to get answers to questions they may have. Members also have an opportunity to share their opinions on what they feel should change and what should stay the same. As a member, it is our duty to be involved and help the group to succeed.
