The goal seeks to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels. There is some considerable government commitment to promote peace for instance the establishment of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) which is there to foster peace and healing. There have been marked improvements in the judicial sector with courts much more accessible to citizens thereby improving access to justice. In 2018, The government established the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD), which is a multi-stakeholder grouping aimed at bridging the divide that exists on the Zimbabwean political landscape although there is need to broaden the platform and have all key political players on board.
There has been some notable progress made through the resuscitation of the Tripartite Negotiation Forum which is the National Dialogue Structure. However, there seem to have been little or no progress on economic growth and this is affecting SDG 8 and 16.
NANGO, in close partnership with the Human Rights thematic cluster, works to end the multiple kinds of violence people face in society by helping the government build stronger protection systems and challenging existing norms related to violence, exploitation and abuse. Thus, NANGO is involved in the Universal Periodic Review processes and the Voluntary National Review of the country, monitoring and tracking abuse of human rights in the country.
