About ZWACT

Zimbabwe Women Against Corruption Trust (ZWACT) is a non political and non-profit making organization based in Harare Zimbabwe whose mandate is to campaign against corruption as well as highlighting its devastating impact on women and girls in Zimbabwean communities. Our organization aims to strengthen women’s participation in anti-corruption and governance initiatives. We use advocacy as our main strategy complimented by research and community education on anti-corruption issues.

About the Call

ZWACT is carrying out a research to ascertain the impact and prevalence of health care sector corruption in Zimbabwe looking at how it is perpetuating inequality in the distribution of SRHR and maternal health care services. As an organisation, we believe in evidence based advocacy therefore carrying researches is part of our strategy to get information which will guide our programming.

This research focuses on the negative impact and prevalence of corruption in the healthcare sector specifically looking at the challenges faced by women when seeking sexual and reproductive health care services including maternal care in Zimbabwe’s public health institutions. The findings from the research will be used to develop and publish a position paper to be shared with academia and interested partners.

Informal research we have been carrying out in various communities reveal that women and girls are facing challenges when seeking sexual and reproductive health rights but most of the cases are not formally reported. There are lots of untold stories concerning women’s horrible experiences when seeking such services in public health institutions. Some reports indicates
how some pregnant women are forced to pay bribes in order to get preferential treatment in public health institutions thereby perpetuating discrimination and inequality.

To this end, ZWACT is commissioning this research paper to facilitate informed discussion on the prevalence and negative impact of corruption in the health care sector in Zimbabwe specifically targeting the challenges faced by women when seeking sexual and reproductive health rights and maternal health care services in public health institutions.
